Green Gully, Saints record fifth win of season

Green Gully kept Hume City’s season winless after going up 1-0 at Green Gully Reserve in the opening round 10 game of the National Premier League on Friday.

The win puts Green gully in seventh position on the ladder with five wins and a draw, while Hume City are in bottom position in 14th with eight-straight loses after two draws in the first two rounds.

Caio De Godoy’s goal in the 31st minute proved to be the match winner in the clash as the final whistle blew with Green Gully up 1-0.

On Saturday evening, Melbourne Knights traveled to take on Dandenong Thunder and were promising early, scoring the first goal of the game in the 22nd minute through Gian Albano.

Minutes later, Thunder responded to level the scores through Tomas Maricic and later went on to kick two goals to win the game with a strong comeback from 1-0 down.

The loss proved crucial as it edged Thunder to ninth position, one spot and one point under Knights in eight position.

Earlier on Saturday, St Albans continued its excellent run of form winning its third match from its last four National Premier League matches on Saturday afternoon at Gardiners Creek Reserve.

The Saints were able to comeback from 1-0 down at half-time, scoring two second half goals to defeat Eastern Lions on their home turf.

The win puts the Saints in sixth position on the ladder after 10 matches.

In the NPL women’s competition, Calder United went down 2-1 to Heidelberg United at Keilor Park Recreation Reserve, marking their first loss for the season after four games.
