Braybrook is hoping a more balanced side will hold it in good stead in the Western Region Football League division 3.
The Brookers, are due to kick off their season on Saturday, have looked to add to their squad with an aim of matching it with the top sides.
Coach Vinnie Turcinovich said everyone was just excited to be back out there after the pandemic.
“It’s exciting for the players, it’s exciting for the coaches and for everyone involved,” he said.
“Talking to other coaches it has been a little hard, but our retention of players has been OK.
“Getting them to train in the early stages was hard. You are only as good as your pre-season and we have been really good after Christmas.”
Turcinovich said they had been trying to prepare the group as if they were playing in division 2 so they understand what to expect against higher ranked sides.
He said their squad this season was a lot deeper than they had last year, when they finished fourth.
“The goal is to go deep in finals,” he said. “Overall it has been pretty good so far, but only time will tell.
“We’re a lot better side, a better balanced side. We’ve brought in some bigger blokes and some guys with some good skills.”
Turcinovich said recruit Adam Forth would play a major role for the side this season. He said Forth will address a need in the backline.
“We had a couple of the bigger boys who let loose against us,” he said. “We had no one to play against them.
“It will release other guys higher up the ground, who are good runners.”
Jackson Connor and Jack Vorano are two new players that Turcinovich is excited to see play.
The Brookers will start their season on Saturday against the Suns.
Turcinovich said they needed to get off to a good start to set their season up.
The Brookers have this weekend off due to Easter, before playing their annual Anzac Day match.
This year the club faces Laverton.
