Round six of the National Premier League saw neighbouring clubs St Albans and Melbourne Knights take on each other while Green Gully traveled to Ballarat for their big clash against South Melbourne.

At Churchill Reserve, goals were non-existent between the Saints and Knights until Knights forward Mohammad Sumaoro found the back of the net in the 59th minute.

Knights captain Ayden Brice was able to win the ball in defence and break through the Saints midfield, running the ball up the field and laying the ball in front of Sumaoro who finished the play superbly to open the scoring.

In the 78th minute Sumaoro was involved in the action again this time, passing a defender and crossing a ball into Gian Albano, who knocked it in with ease.

The final score ended 2-0, giving the Knights their third win of the season to put them in sixth position on the ladder.

On the other hand, after a draw and win in the first three games, the Saints have now lost three games in a row, putting them in 10th position on the ladder.

Green Gully travelled to Ballarat on Saturday afternoon to take on the only undefeated team in the NPL competition, South Melbourne.

The Cavaliers suffered a goal in the seventh minute from a controversial penalty that was adjudicated by the referee after a ball had hit the defender, whose hand was in a natural position, with minimal impact made to the ball.

South Melbourne capitalised on their early opportunity taking the 1-0 lead from the penalty which they later extended to 2-0 which finalised the scoreline at Ballarat Regional Soccer Facility.

The Cavaliers now sit seventh on the ladder with three wins.

Over to NPL 3 and North Sunshine suffered a 1-0 loss to Geelong on Saturday evening away from home at Stead Park.

A penalty was given away in the 81st minute resulting in the goal to Geelong.

This keeps the Eagles without a point after the first two rounds of the season.

Western United picked up a 2-0 win to Whittlesea Ranges at Epping Stadium with Jake Najdovski and Sabit Ngor the goalscorers.

The win keeps Western United undefeated with two wins from the first two games in the NPL 3 competition.
