Grand United believes it has the right mix to go deep into finals in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association division 3.

The club sits on top of the ladder heading into the final two rounds and are aiming for a top two spot.

President Alan Hale said they were thrilled with how the season had played out so far.

“I think that the team has built well together,” he said.

“There were a lot of new faces at the start of the year and I think we have got the right mix.

“The guys are performing really well.”

Hale said captain Matthew Hayes and vice-captain Nilan Fernando had really led from the front.

Both are in the top five in runs made for the competition.

“Matt Hayes as captain and Nilan as vice-captain have done a really good job of getting them all to gel as a team.

“They are leading the team on and off the field.”

Hale said the opening partnership of Shane Jones and Jayden White-Powell had been one of their keys to success and they had made a stamp on the team and the competition.

Hale said they weren’t completely surprised that they would be in the mix at this time of the season.

He said that they had been able to rebuild the last couple of years around some key players who stuck around when some tough decisions were made.

“Those players have created the culture.

“At the start of the year we were confident we had a strong squad.

“We aren’t super surprised where we are, but the job isn’t done.”

The Gorillas are set to play Pascoe Vale Hadfield on Saturday.

Hale said they were hoping to finish in the top two.

“We want to keep on winning,” he said. “Winning the last two games is the goal. Hopefully we can get a couple of home finals.”

In other matches, Laverton will host Williamstown Imperials, Point Cook will place East Keilor, Sunbury is set to face Footscray United and Sunshine Heights and Werribee Centrals will do battle.
