Overnewton College year eight students were given an insight into the impacts of underage drinking last Monday.
Smashed Live, a global education program dedicated to reducing underage alcohol consumption, visited the school.
The preventative program tours schools with a live theatre performance and interactive workshops delivered by professional actors, supported by teaching resources, a parent’s guide and a comprehensive evaluation framework.
The college’s Nala Tubb said the program had a massive impact on the students.
“It was really fantastic,” she said.
“It was thought provoking and it incorporated the human side of things into relative scenarios.
“The students found it really enjoyable.”
As part of the program, students had to come up with skits about refusing alcohol, which the actors then acted out.
Ms Tubb said the students were really engaged in the activity.
She said they would recommend the program and would love to do it with other students.
“We do a unit around good decision making with the year eights,” she said.
“We try to talk about peer pressures and a strength based approach.
“The kids could relate to the situations that the actors were talking about.”
