fter just getting back on their feet after two tough years due to the pandemic, the Brimbank Bicycle Education Centre has been dealt a blow with the centre being broken into.
The centre was broken into early Wednesday morning, believed to be between 3.30am and 4am, when the security system went out.
The thieves stole two trikes which are used to help people with disabilities ride, worth $12,000 in total.
Overall, it’s believed $15,000 worth of items were stolen including the security system.
The centre’s Neil Hunichen said a hell of a mess had been left.
“Just when things are starting to get better with parties and really good events, this happens,” he said.
“The last thing we needed was to be broken into. It seems they jammed a roller door to get in and they’ve cut a section of the fence.
“It seems they were looking for money, they went through every cupboard and shelf.”
Worryingly, some keys were stolen during the break in.
Mr Hunichen said the trikes came from America and were donated by Lions Club of Taylors Lakes and Brimbank Central Rotary Club, were important for the centre.
“One of them was a dual trike which had an electric motor on it. These trikes are popular with disability groups.”
The break in has been reported to police.
