Former Western United star Besart Berisha has announced his retirement from professional soccer.
Berisha took to social media to tell his fans his playing days are over.
Dear fans, now the time has come: I will end my playing football career,” he said.
“It’s been a unbelievable time that I will never forget. I remember when I started this game I always had a smile in my face and today I am smile again thinking of all the beautiful memories I had with the game.
“The moment I started this game to play I always dream to become a professional football player, I would like to thank God for make my dream come true.
“I like to thank my family for the support and always be there for me.”
Berisha also thanked his clubs, including Western United.
Berisha, who is the A-League’s leading goal scorer, was one of United’s inaugural players.
He played 50 games and scored 26 goals.
The striker’s two-year contract with the club ended last year.
General manager of football Mal Impiombato said at the time that Berisha’s impact had been massive for the club.
“On the field, Bes played 50 games for the club and scored 26 goals, something he can be extremely proud of. However, off the field it is Bes’ professionalism, dedication and leadership that makes him the champion that he is.”
