After 11 years of waiting, senior students at Victoria University Secondary College will get to experience new state of the art facilities.
Since the school was formed, from three other schools merging, the dream has been to have a brand new campus for all their students.
On Monday, year 10, 11 and 12 students will step into the classrooms at the Cairnlea campus for the first time with stage one completed.
Principal Elaine Hazim said it’s a pretty exciting moment.
“This is a completely brand new building that we’ve been waiting for,” she said.
“Ever since we merged, we have been waiting for it. The government had promised to build it.
“It was 11 years of dragging their feet. The old buildings, everytime it would rain there would be leakages.”
Ms Hazim said some of the key highlights at the new campus were the performing arts centre, the science, food and technology areas, a cafe and a large study area.
“We have a huge area the students can study in and collaborate together.”
While excited to have the new campus open, Ms Hazim said they were hoping stage two would be funded in the state budget this year, to allow all the students to be on one campus.
