A famous Brimbank artist is the inspiration for two of the shows at the Midsumma Festival.
Midsumma is Victoria’s premier queer arts and cultural organisation, bringing together a diverse mix of LGBTQIA+ artists, performers, communities and audiences.
Several events are being held in Brimbank in the coming weeks including two events celebrating Leigh Bowery.
Bowery, who was born in Brimbank, was one of the most influential international arts figures of the 80s and 90s. Tom Bowery, the father of Leigh, will be in attendance.
The Bowery gallery presents ‘Fabulous & Impossible –The Cult of Leigh Bowery, is an exhibition running from January 28 – March 19 featuring the visual art of Sydney-based queer artist and multidisciplinary pistol-whip Tom Christophersen.
Impress or Revolt: The Fabulous and Impossible Legacy of Leigh Bowery celebrates the five year anniversary of the opening of the Bowery Theatre and Gallery in St Albans on February 4.
There will be a Pride Pool Party hosted by Brimbank council, in collaboration with Bulldog Pride at Sunshine Leisure Centre on January 30.
Entangled by Genevieve Collier is an art exhibition presented by Genevieve Collier from February 4 – March 17 at Hunt Club. T
his installation is for people whose answers often spurn more questions, who believe in the power of art. It explores forgotten people from the past and the potential of an unknown future.
