A new road bridge is starting to take shape as part of the removal of the level crossing at Fitzgerald Road Ardeer.
When complete, the bridge will slash congestion and be a welcome replacement for the boom gates in Deer Park and Ardeer and will provide a more reliable road network and improved safety for pedestrians and road users.
The new road overpass design retains the area between the new road and Kororoit Creek as green space, with improved access to be provided by the new 800-metre shared use path linking to the Western Ring Road Trail.
Plenty of work has been underway, including the installing of 14 bridge beams – each weighing 61 tonnes.
The Level Crossing Removal Project team engaged local truck and logistics company Hi-Haul Transport to transport the beams to site, to support those in the area.
The project incorporated community feedback to ensure that open green space is maintained for local residents and the Ardeer community as well as improving
local walking and cycling connections.
The project has been fast tracked for completion by 2023.
Level Crossing Removal Program director Andrew Pepplinkhouse said they were looking forward to removing this dangerous and congested level crossing for the residents of Ardeer and thanked the locals for their patience while the work is being done.
