Brimbank council had prepared some FAQs of the most common questions that are asked over the Summer period.

Will the council’s customer service centres be open?

Brimbank’s customer service centre at Keilor has reopened. Our Keilor and Sunshine Customer Service Centres will be open to assist on regular business days throughout the Christmas and New Year period, from 8.45am – 5pm. I’ve seen a snake on my property, can the council help me to remove it?

If you live on private property, please call the council so we can send a professional snake catcher to assist you.

The council cannot send a snake catcher if:

-The premises is industrial or commercial

-The snake’s location is unknown

-The snake was last seen 30 minutes before the call

-The property’s resident/occupier isn’t home

The council’s snake catching service does not include other reptiles.

I think my pet registration is due for renewal, how do I pay this please?

Registrations are charged annually and they must be renewed by April 10 each year. Payments can be done online through the council’s website, BPAY or in-person at Sunshine Customer Service Centre or Keilor Customer Service Centre.

We’ve been to our local park, the bin was overflowing and the play equipment was damaged. Can I report this please?

If you notice an overflowing bin or broken play equipment at a park, you can report it to customer service via phone or email, though the quickest channel is to use the Report It tool on the council’s website. Visit brimbank.vic.gov.au/report-it to make a service request.

I saw an owner not picking up after their dog, is there anything the council can do please?

Animal management officers are issuing notice to comply to any dog owners who are not picking up after their dog when they can be identified. They are also handing out poo bags and actively educating residents. If you can identify the owner, please use the council’s Report It tool by visiting brimbank.vic.gov.au/report-it

I’d like to drop off some things to the Resource Recovery Centre, what are the opening hours please?

The new operating hours are Monday – Friday, from 9am – 4pm. The centre is closed on public holidays. You can drop off approved items at no charge on any of these days.

Will my bin be emptied on our normal collection day this Christmas?

The council’s waste collection service, including rubbish, recycling and green waste, will continue to operate up on normal collection days throughout the Christmas and New Year period. For information on waste services, visit brimbank.vic.gov.au/rubbish-recycling-and-waste

Do I get another free hard waste collection now that it’s the New Year?

Every residential household in Brimbank will be able to book one no charge, at call hard waste collection service each financial year (July 1- June 30).

My neighbour is celebrating Chinese New Year and is preparing fireworks in their backyard, can I report this please?

Any celebration where fireworks, including firecrackers, are being used will require an event permit from the council. Please note that within Victoria, fireworks can only be set off by a licenced pyrotechnician. Reports of illegal fireworks being discharged should be referred to Victoria Police.

Is the Chinese New Year a public holiday in Brimbank?

No, council offices will be open on Chinese New Year, which is February 1.
