More than 250 searches were conducted by police during an operation at Watergardens on Thursday.

Police were out in force as part of Omni Operation which provides police with additional powers to detect weapon offences within a designated search area.

Omni operations are regularly conducted at locations across the state including shopping precincts and railway stations.

A police spokesperson said Transit Safety Division conducted an operation in the vicinity of Watergardens railway station on Thursday afternoon with the support of Protective Services Officers and local Sunshine police.

“The highly visible operation aimed to detect weapon offences, enhance community safety, gather intelligence and deter anyone who may think that carrying a weapon in the community is acceptable.

“Police conducted 251 searches during the course of the operation.

“Two offences were detected, with one person being arrested for outstanding warrants and a 14-year-old boy was issued with a caution for carrying a controlled weapon.

“Transit police and PSOs will continue to have a highly visible presence and patrol community locations including train stations across the network to prevent crime and identify and arrest offenders.”
