A permanent odour solution at the AkzoNobel plant in Sunshine North has been installed and operational.
The company’s latest community update last week, said the RTO has been installed and an air quality consultant would be on site this week to test the new equipment and verify its efficacy.
Test results will be shared as soon as they are available.
The update said that AkzoNobel has also been working with Golder [a consulting design company] on a plan to identify and mitigate fugitive emissions from other parts of the plant, including the paint plant.
“Various potential emissions points have been identified and solutions are being reviewed,” the update said.
The company has also been working with acoustic consultants and have identified other projects that will help further mitigate noise emissions from the site.
“The consultant’s report is being finalised and projects will then be scheduled and commissioned, prioritising projects that are expected to have the greatest impact,” the update said.
“While [Brimbank] council’s approval of AkzoNobel’s planning application [for a attenuating wall] is expected to take several months, structural designs are being finalised to ensure there are no delays once approval is received.”
AkzoNobel’s plants will close across the Christmas break, with one of the three plants ceasing operation on December 22 and the other two on December 23.
All will start operating again on January 5.
The next community forum will be on February 1, from 6.15pm, at the St Albans Community Centre, pending COVID-19 restrictions.
