Keilor Downs: Vivian Cini, a chef who loves to share

Move over Gary Mehigan and George Calombaris – Brimbank has its very own master chef.

Vivian Cini, who has a passion for cooking and trying out different flavours from around the world, has turned her love of food into a new home-based business, World On A Plate.

The business offers cooking classes across a range of cuisines, including French, Greek, Italian, Indian, Middle Eastern, Moroccan and Spanish.

Ms Cini said the classes were not only about the food but also aimed at embracing the culture, music and traditions of the selected countries.

“We live in troubled times now and anything that can bring people together to learn and experience a different culture, its customs and traditions will help us unite and give us more empathy and understanding of others,” she said.

The trained teacher ran children’s cooking classes for five years before creating a custom-made French provincial-style kitchen at her home and starting World On A Plate.

“Cooking at home, I don’t cook the same thing,” she said.

“One night we’ll have Greek, one night we’ll have Spanish, one night we’ll have Italian. I want to teach home-cooking, not fancy food, so that people can go home and cook it themselves.”
