The St Albans Community Centre and the Bowery Theatre is set to enhance its reputation as a creative cultural hub.
The centre and theatre, which is a key location in St Albans, is a modern, attractive and popular space for a range of community activities.
Starting early next year, the weekend priority for use of the centre will be for activities which support the strengthening of the facilities as a creative cultural hub.
The Bowery is a 202-seat performing arts theatre, while the community centre includes modern community hall spaces each holding 96 people with retractable walls giving a space for over 288 people.
Additional spaces include an exhibition space, performance stair, dance studio, arts and craft studio, IT training room, rehearsal rooms and meeting rooms.
Brimbank council community wellbeing director Lynley Dumble said priority will be given to activities that are creative and arts focused.
“These could be groups that host events including creative cultural festivals and events, performers, dancers, theatre creators, creative and artistic youth activities, arts-based classes and workshops,” she said.
“This approach allows Brimbank council to focus on and celebrate these activities and create more opportunities for our community to come together and share our diverse and amazingly creative arts and culture.”
Monthly farmers and are markets, along with other arts and creative activities, including those that may already be taking place in the centre will be given priority access.
The centre and theatre are part of the Creative Brimbank, which primarily covers the work of the arts and culture unit at Brimbank council.
