A staff member from Kororoit MP Marlene Kairouz’s office has admitted branch stacking work been undertaken at the MP’s office
Two staffers from Ms Kairouz’s office recently gave evidence at the Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission inquiry into branch stacking in the Australian Labor Party.
Ms Kairouz was earlier this year charged by the Victorian Labor Party as part of a probe into branch staking.
She has denied allegations she was involved in branch stacking.
Electorate officer Kirsten Psaila, who gave evidence on Wednesday, admitted to branch stacking work being undertaken in Ms Kairouz’s office.
Ms Psalia, who is also the president of the Caroline Springs Creekside ALP branch, said she first become involved in branch stacking when working for former Keilor MP George Seitz
“Branch stacking for me would be as in renewing members. I’ve been doing it for years,” she said.
“[It was for] members who do not pay their own membership because they can’t afford it or don’t pay the total amount.”
Ms Psaila started working for Ms Kairouz in 2011.
Another electorate officer, Christine Kelly, who gave evidence on Monday, said that she had no knowledge of branch stacking activities.
Ms Kairouz is set to give evidence this week. Star Weekly believes that her evidence will be given behind closed doors due to concerns about her mental health.
