Power outages and fallen trees hit Brimbank

Nearly 100 people called the SES for assistance in Brimbank as huge winds hit the state.

In the past 24 hours, there were 92 requests for assistance to due to damage and trees down.

Of those calls, 17 were in St Albans, nine in each of Deer Park and Taylors Lakes and six in Sunshine.

The majority of those calls (61) were for trees down, while there was about 20 calls for building damage.

Brimbank council said on its Facebook page that it had received a high volume of calls.

IPC Health had to close all its testing sites for the days, while Keilor Golf Course had to close due to the winds and fallen trees.

Earlier, several suburbs were left without power

Powercor has outages listed at Taylors Hill, Delahey, Burnside, St Albans, Albion and Sunshine and neighbouring, while Jemena has outages in Tullamarine.

A number of residents have taken to social media saying they have no power.

The wind has also caused a number of trees and power cables to fall on roads.

A power cable has fallen in Sunshine North, with power out in that area.

Residents on social media have said trees have fallen in Deer Park, St Albans, Cairnlea, Taylors Lakes and Sunshine West.

Public transport services have also been hit hard.

On the Sunbury line, there are fallen trees on the tracks, with buses replacing trains between Watergardens and Sunbury stations.
