Bus services in Melbourne’s west will be disrupted after an industrial precinct in Sunshine West has been declared a tier two exposure site.

In a statement released on Friday morning, the Department of Transport said that a number of services had been cancelled due to a significant number of drivers from the Sunshine West depot needing to follow health advice after the industrial precinct was listed as an exposure site.

“These drivers have been tested and are isolating until they receive a negative result,” the statement said.

“Due to the number of drivers impacted, route 903 will run to a Saturday timetable, route 429 will not run and routes 426, 215, 216, 220 and 223 will operate on a reduced service today.

“Transdev and the Department of Transport are working closely with the Department of Health to support these drivers and we are exercising an abundance of caution in the interest of the drivers and our passengers.”

The statement said there was no risk to passengers.

It comes after acting chief health officer Ben Cowie yesterday called for all staff in the industrial precinct to get tested.

He said repeated strong water waste detections of the virus in the area means it is more likely than not, a staff member in the area has the virus.
