Ready to run

Get out your running shoes and hit the path as part of the upcoming Brimbank Park Running Festival.

The community-focused festival has six different events to cater for everyone from parents with children in prams through to grandparents and serious runners.

Organiser Brett Saxon said it was exciting to get the festival up and running after a tough 2020.

His family company, Trailsplus, normally organisers more than 15 events a year but was restricted last year due to COVID-19.

He said the main aim of this year’s Brimbank event, which offered distances from two kilometres through to 50 kilometres, was to make sure everyone feels safe.

“Pre-Covid we would have 600 people at this event,” he said.

“Before the lockdown last year, we were allowed 500 people but only had 250 people.

“At the moment for this year we have just over 200 people registered. We think that number will get to 400 and we’re hoping to get that.

“It is a COVIDSafe event and is registered.”

Mr Saxon said despite some changes, they were still focused on making it a family event.

The festival will also raise money for cancer charity, Canteen. Trailsplus has raised nearly $60,000 in total for the charity.

Mr Saxon said they were still looking for volunteers for the event and invited local community or sporting clubs that would like to volunteer to reach out. Money raised at the event is donated to the volunteer groups.

The event is on March 21. Registrations are open online.
