A new shared path for pedestrians and cyclists has been constructed at Braybrook’s Cranwell Reserve, providing access to the Maribyrnong River Trail.
Cranwell Reserve overlooks the Maribyrnong River valley and provides access to the trail and an outdoor playground, including public facilities such as a barbecue area, seating and drinking fountain.
Maribyrnong mayor Michael Clarke said the new 330-metre path replaced an old gravel one, providing a safer and more-functional surface for visitors.
“The Maribyrnong River Trail is a popular destination for locals and visitors to the area and I am in no doubt this new shared access path will be welcomed and enjoyed by users in the area, especially with the warmer weather,“ he said.
“Helping ensure residents have access to sustainable infrastructure that promotes active transport, and is safe and functional, is a key part of supporting happy and healthy community for generations to come.“
The path has new line-marking, decals and safety guard rails.
It supports the council’s Bicycle Strategy 2020-2030, a 10-year plan to encourage cycling by creating a safe and inviting environment for riders.
Further developments in the area will include the construction of a new path along the Maribyrnong River, near Medway Golf Course.
