Brimbank residents could be eligible to join the Energy Savvy Upgrades program, which offers heavily subsidised energy assessments and upgrades to houses and fixed appliances.

The program is available for homeowners, renters and landlords and offers upgrades to insulation, draught proofing, heating and cooling, hot water, window shading and lighting.

People who are on a low or recently reduced income, who are unemployed, or who have a long-term medical condition or disability are eligible. Those caring for someone in similar circumstances are also eligible.

Householders and landlords can pay $100 for an assessment that is typically valued at $495, and are expected to pay a minimum of $800 towards the cost of upgrades. The Victorian government will contribute $800 and Hume council will contribute $220 towards the upgrades.

The Energy Savvy Upgrades program is funded by the state government, supported by Hume council and will be delivered by Draught Busters.
