An official flag raising ceremony, an online exhibition and live performance by Pirritu will be among the highlights of NAIDOC Week in Brimbank this year.

NAIDOC Week, on now until November 15, celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life.

This year’s theme, Always Was, Always Will Be, recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for more than 65,000 years.

The week is an opportunity to participate in a range of activities and to support your local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

Council is hosting a range of online NAIDOC Week events that are open to all.

Some of the highlights will include a storytelling session with Mandi Barton on Saturday, November 14 via Zoom.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples are invited to join Yorta Yorta artist Mandi in this workshop and share your Isolation/lockdown stories of struggles and triumphs through yarning and creative activities.

Children’s NAIDOC Week art packs themed Endangered Fauna of Brimbank: Habitats are also available.
