Pupils at Keilor Primary School were treated to a special surprise earlier this month.
Award winning author and illustrator Kylie Howarth stopped by to take the budding young authors through her creative process.
“We had a great time. We ran through the various stages of creating a book and how to create a story from scratch,” she said.
“I showed the kids some rough sketches to start, then how I re-work them so they could see the process.”
The pupils were also shown how to create artwork using household items.
“We also went through how create different painted textures,” she said.
“I use all sorts of things; bubble wrap, broccoli dipped in paint… you name it.
“I actually showed the students the broccoli one and asked what they thought I used to create texture, which got some interesting answers.”
But the main highlight was a special furry guest.
“We surprised them with the Delux paint dog who came out of hidden section on library. They absolutely loved it.
“We all then had a go at drawing our own version of the dog.”
Ms Howarth has recently partnered with Delux and created a book, which is a limited edition activity book.
“It’s a fun book…it’s a colouring book, there’s a find the hidden paint brush component and of course the story.
“I’ve actually just signed 1000 copies, which come with a four litre can of Delux wash and wear paint.”
