It didn’t take much for Anthony Ferrara to be bitten by the New York bug. Only eating his way through the Big Apple’s five districts, watching live American sports, and generally immersing himself in the whole New York thing … so, hey, not too much.
Anthony had always given thought to going into business, so figured he’d create one with everything he loves about the vibrant, melting-pot of New York: food and sports.
That’s how 5 Districts NY, a sports bar/eatery in Keilor Park, came to be. Open now for six months, it’s perched in a pocket around the Thomsons Road area, where other creative eateries are springing up.
As soon as Anthony saw the building, particularly the rooftop terrace, he knew it responded to his vision of bringing a New York vibe to Melbourne’s west.
All brickwork, concrete and exposed ceiling ducts, as well as banquettes, communal tables and stunning murals, 5 Districts NY captures the look of New York grittiness, while the food takes diners on a journey through the districts – you know, Queens, The Bronx, Manhattan, Brooklyn and Staten Island.
Some of the quirky names for dishes immediately reference NY, for example Sinatra sticks with bacon mayo; the Rueben dog; Empire State and Trump Tower BBQ brisket burgers; and the uptown, midtown and downtown salads. And where else but NY can you get frickles – pickles in crispy-fried batter?
New York’s Latino influence is represented, too, with the likes of empanadas, tacos, nachos and charred corn – all done in true NY bar style.
The rooftop is a happening place, where American brews, spirits and cocktails are served. It’s a top spot for a fully catered business function or lively party, and sometimes a DJ or muso brings tunes during Happy Hour session.
As a sports bar, 5 Districts offers a smorgasbord for fans – Aussie sports, boxing, all Main Event fights, UFC.
