Drive-through recycling day returns

Brimbank’s pop-up drive through recycling initiative is returning for a second instalment.

Residents will be able to carry out their spring cleaning and take their unwanted items to the pop-up site at Victoria University’s St Albans campus from 8am-1pm on Saturday, November 30.

It follows the council’s first event, which was held in March when hundreds of people took advantage of the chance to declutter their home and dispose of unwanted items.

Brimbank mayor Georgina Papafotiou encouraged residents to make the most of the opportunity.

“It’s easy and no charge for residents to participate in the pop-up event. You don’t even need to get out of the car. On the day, simply load up the car or trailer and arrive at the location, we’ll take care of the rest,” she said.

“We are partnering with local charity organisations, including the West Welcome Wagon and Bikes 4 Life, to donate and reuse unwanted household items, including mattresses, white goods, electronic items and bicycles.

Televisions, computers electronic appliances, white goods, furniture (in good condition), mattresses, bicycles (in good condition), homewares, clothes and linen will all be accepted.

However asbestos, construction waste, chemicals, biological waste, sharps, broken monitors, fluorescent tubes and smoke detectors will not be accepted.

Only cars, small vans or cars with trailers will be able to drop-off items and no trucks or commercial quantities allowed.

There will also be an eight item limit per household and proof of residency must be supplied.
