More than 40 young people from across the west will come together to perform a show in Footscray, St Albans and Werribee.

The concerts will bring together Western Edge Youth Arts (WEYA) community youth theatre ensembles, which are based in each of the three suburbs.

The show, The Watching, will include three sections which link together, as a reflection on the communal experience of viewing, with scenes as varied as period drama, a supernatural thriller and a mafia noir-themed section.

Truganina resident Amarachi Okorom, 22, will perform in the show. Okorom, who is also a spoken word poet and writer, said The Watching was also a “subtle commentary on representation in the media”.

Okorom said cast members come from many backgrounds and cultures and are featured in posters promoting the show.

“I think people would want to watch even just looking at the poster, it’s something new and I feel like the people in it … they may hopefully feel represented,” she said.

The Watching will be on Saturday, November 9 at The Bowery Theatre in St Albans; Saturday, November 16 at the Footscray Community Arts Centre; and Tuesday, November 19 at the Wyndham Cultural Centre. Tickets: adults $10, concession $5, group 4+ $25. (Book at bowerystacc.com.au, duewestartsfestival.com.au or wyncc.com.au)
