Forty years ago

November 20, 1974

Sunshine’s long-awaited hospital has started to become a reality. Planning of stage one of the multimillion-dollar project gets under way this week. A Sunshine Community Hospital committee of management has been appointed and will be led by president Fred Grundy.

This follows meetings and discussions with Sunshine council, the state government and the Hospital and Charities Commission.

Thirty years ago

November 21, 1984

An overhaul of St Albans shopping centre and the employment of two ethnic community service workers are among improvements announced this week for the Sunshine area. Under stage three of the Westplan, released on Monday, $30,000 will be spent on improving the St Albans shopping centre and $60,000 will go towards two ethnic community workers. The workers will give an understanding of the needs of the ethnic communities.

Twenty years ago

November 23, 1994

The proposed City of Brimbank would struggle to be financially viable despite boundary changes made in the Local Government Board’s final report, according to Keilor council. However, Sunshine council is pleased that the final report closely resembles its original submission to the Local Government Board. The board has slightly redrawn the north-east and south-east boundaries of Brimbank.

November 23, 2004

A St Albans mother is furious after her 12-year-old son suffered first-degree burns when playing with friends at the Keilor Downs skate ramp in Taylors Road. The mother, who did not want to be named, said two teenagers set a fire in a cavity under the metal skate ramp and pushed her son down on it. The fire caused the metal ramp to heat up and sear his tracksuit pants. Shocked and terrified, the boy tried in vain to put out the fire.
