St Albans student Augustine Morris is chasing his Olympic dream.
The 16-year-old is a national champion and has his mind set on going further.
“I want to compete at the Olympics in the 100, 200 and 400. Mainly the 200 and 400. At this level I’m a national champion and have represented Victoria.
“I want to get recognised by the rest of the world next, that’s my next goal.
“I don’t think of myself as someone who is only 16 years-old and can’t do a lot of things, I think of myself as someone who can go to the Olympic games next year and actually win.”
Augustine is well on his way after a recent nomination for the Australian Olympic Change-Maker program.
The program recognises and rewards students who are demonstrating the Olympic spirit through leadership and driving positive change in their communities.
“I was told by a leader at the school that I’d be a perfect candidate for this award, so we sat down, put a list together and I made a video selling myself to the Olympic committee.
“I was invited to a conference with 120 other students from Victoria, which was an amazing experience, one I’ll never forget.”
Augustine was nominated for the program after establishing a health program at Catholic Regional College, St Albans to “encourage students to be comfortable in their own skin and enjoy who they are”.
“Now over 20 students have access to free personal training and the opportunity to achieve their dreams.”
As for dreams, Augustine says there’s no slowing him down as he sprints towards his.
