Work on a $4.3 million sports and community pavilion at St Albans’ Errington Reserve has begun.
The old pavilion and the adjoining unused meals on wheels facility has been demolished to make way for the new pavilion.
Brimbank mayor Lucinda Congreve said work is progressing well.
“We’ve completed the demolition of the old pavilion and unused meals on wheels building, and have poured the slab for the new sports and community pavilion.
“Over the coming months the community can look forward to seeing the pavilion take shape.”
LED lighting will be added near the new pavilion and construction of new synthetic tennis courts valued at $2.4 million is moving along quickly.
“The three courts being constructed next to the pavilion already have concrete courts poured, light poles are about to be installed, and synthetic grass will follow in the coming weeks,” Cr Congreve said.
“The multi-use hard court near Percy Street is also moving along. Concrete will be poured shortly for the court base.
“We can’t wait to deliver the new pavilion and all of these other amazing facilities to the community.”
Future works planned for Errington Reserve include a sports ground reconstruction/realignment, and expansion of the park and playground.
Works already completed in the area include the construction of the St Albans Community Centre and the Bowery Theatre, which replaced the old Errington Community Centre, and the makeover of the connecting street, Princess Street.
Alice’s Playspace – an inclusive playspace at the reserve for children of all abilities – has also proven to be popular.
The playground equipment is specifically designed for accessibility and inclusion and allows carers to remain in close proximity to their children.
