UPDATE: Disappointed Rolling Stones fans are being urged to come to the Macedon Ranges despite the rock giants’ decision to cancel Saturday night’s Hanging Rock show.
The band’s highly anticipated concert was cancelled on Friday morning due to a throat infection afflicting frontman Mick Jagger.
It’s the second date at the Rock that hasn’t gone ahead; the Stones’ postponed in March after the death of Jagger’s partner L’Wren Scott.
A Frontier spokesman said: “The Rolling Stones are incredibly disappointed to cancel the Hanging Rock gig and to disappoint their fans but were left with no other option.”
Frontier said Jagger was under strict doctor’s orders to rest his vocal cords for the next few days to recuperate for the rest of the tour.
Woodend resident Daron Jacks, who planned to take a group of seven to Saturday’s show, said he was shattered.
‘‘I was only out there yesterday … it was looking fantastic.
‘‘I just keep thinking of the lyrics to Start Me Up, ‘you make a grown man cry’.’’

Mr Jacks said he was fearful of the impact on Macedon Ranges businesses.
But he hoped a Rolling Stones tribute band performing at Woodend’s Holgate Brewhouse on Sunday might go some way to easing the pain felt by fans of the British group.
A spokeswoman for The Grange group, which has 52 rooms at Lancefield’s Cleveland Winery and 20 at The Grange, said they had been flooded with calls.
‘‘People are in shock a bit, I think,’’ she said.
‘‘By the time they ring us they are pretty angry, because obviously this is the second time they’ve cancelled.’’
The spokeswoman said the group was urging people to travel to the area as planned.
‘‘The first thing we’re doing is offering them free cheese tasting, a bottle of wine … we’ve organised a live band.
‘‘We’re saying hey, we’re expecting you anyway, so come and have a good time.’’
The spokeswoman said the group was also offering to transfer accommodation bookings to other dates.
Ticketholders to the Hanging Rock show have been advised to contact Ticketmaster for refunds.
