Ted Whitten jnr and the Western Bulldogs have been recognised for their role in promoting men’s health – and preserving the legacy of a football icon.
Major Road Projects Victoria presented Ted Whitten jnr and Western Bulldogs chief executive Ameet Bains with framed photos of the recently upgraded EJ Whitten Bridge.
Signage at the bridge commemorating the career and legacy of EJ Whitten has proved a hit with motorists.
Major Road Projects Victoria project director Andrew Robilliard said it was wonderful to see EJ Whitten’s legacy live on.
“EJ Whitten is an icon of the game and true son of the west,” he said. “The work that the EJ Whitten Foundation and Western Bulldogs do to continue honoring his legacy should be celebrated.
“We’re proud to honour EJ Whitten’s memory by displaying his iconic image for drivers to see every time they cross the bridge.”
Ted Whitten jnr said events such as the upcoming AFL Legends game were important for raising awareness.
“It’s estimated that more than 19,000 new cases of prostate cancer will be diagnosed in Australia this year, so we need to keep doing everything we can to raise awareness of this disease and funds for research,” he said.
