Summer time in Melbourne | Gallery

On January 3, when the mercury hadn’t dipped below 29 degrees overnight and promised to nudge 40 degrees by mid afternoon, Melburnians instinctively set their alarms early, slipped, slopped and slapped, grabbed their sun hats and towels and headed to the beach.

Your humble, slightly grumbling correspondent spent the morning tracing sandy footsteps along windswept suburban beaches before driving in blessed, air-conditioned comfort to Venus Bay.

I got sandy, I got wet and I got slightly burned, but I like to think I got the odd nice pic.
