A Keilor apprentice has been recognised as one of the best young talents in his field.
Luke Peters, who is employed by Sheen Panel in Tullamarine, was named automotive apprentice of the year, automotive refinishing technology, at Kangan Institute’s Apprentice and Industry Awards ceremony last week.
Mr Peters said it was nice to be recognised.
“I won a similar award last year, but that was from inside the company – this one is a whole TAFE thing, which was cool,” he said.
“The good thing about TAFE has been getting to see where everyone else is at and what they’re up to.
“It’s been a really good networking opportunity, as well as a learning experience.”
Mr Peters, who works as a car painter within the company, said a passion for cars was a key reason for his success.
While each job is different, Mr Peters said his favourite had been restoring a Commodore.
“We had an old Commodore come in a while back which was something a bit different,” he said.
“It was really nice to put value back on to an old vehicle, rather than an insurance case.”
