INXS guitarist Tim Farriss has reportedly undergone emergency surgery to reattach his ring finger after it was severed in a boating accident.
The 57-year-old musician’s professional career remains in doubt after his left hand was injured and ring finger severed by an electric anchor winch while working on a boat in Sydney’s Northern beaches on Australia Day morning.
Farriss reportedly underwent emergency surgery to reattach the finger at the Royal North Shore Hospital last week.
In an email to his band mates and manager Chris Murphy, Farris said: “I don’t know if I will be able to play properly again,” News Corp has reported.
“Tim is now home from the hospital with his family and undergoing physiotherapy as part of the recovery process,” Murphy said.
“He is getting the best possible care and we hope with time he will regain movement in his finger. This was a terrible accident, we are all here to support him.”
Farriss’ accident comes as the band enjoys a renewed wave of popularity fuelled by the screening of the Never Tear Us Apart mini-series last year, which documented the band’s rise to stardom.
INXS’ The Very Best album was the top selling Australian album in 2014 and remains in the top 20 after 77 weeks in the ARIA charts.
After the success of the mini-series, the band had hinted that future live performances might be on the cards, despite announcing their retirement from the touring circuit during a concert in Perth in 2012.
