Flights of fancy: 23 Riverside Avenue, Keilor, 3036

At the end of a leafy cul-de-sac, this distinctive house has four levels, each taking in spectacular vistas of Brimbank Park below. The neighbourhood is surrounded by Keilor’s undulating green wedge, adding considerably to the cachet of the property.

It’s the kind of place that, from the street, appears small and modest but that all changes once inside. Beyond densely planted gardens that cascade down to the front door, entry is to a floorboarded hallway, to the left of which is access to an extra-big remote-controlled double garage.

Completing the entry level are a study (or fourth bedroom), a powder room and the first of three fitted bedrooms which, like all the others, has a balcony for those views.

Tassie oak stairs ascend from entry to the top floor where two spacious bedrooms each have fitted walk-in robe, en suite and split-system. En suites are identically decked out in green marble but just one has a spa tub. And balcony views apply.

Down another flight of stairs from ground level is the living hub laid with polished floorboards. The views, from inside and a balcony, are at their best on this level, where the third marble bathroom is found.

The kitchen in here, with white 2pac cabinetry and charcoal granite benches, sits under a decorative bulkhead. It has a walk-in pantry and stainless-steel mod-cons.

Heading down another staircase, there’s a huge storage room and cellar half way down, while at the bottom another tiled living room, with neighbouring laundry, emerges. This has a slider to a long verandah where the outlook is all leafy gardens.

Steep steps, going under a wisteria arbour, descend to the bottom of a garden where kids will happily believe fairies live among fruit and olive trees.

Flights of stone steps along each side of the house head up and past pretty gardens to arrive at ground level once again.

With a strong claim to uniqueness, the property also has ducted heating, ducted vacuum, alarm, a satellite dish, intercom and vertical blinds all through.

Keilor Village’s shops and primary school are four minutes away by car.
