Brimbank council meetings will be available to stream from the start of 2019.

The council said the decision gives the opportunity for community members who cannot attend council meetings in person to watch debate and decision-making at their own convenience.

Mayor Margaret Giudice said streaming meetings will boost transparency and engage the community.

“All council meetings are open to everyone, but we understand that not everyone has the time to come along on the day,” said Giudice. “With streamed council meetings, we’re making it easier for everyone to keep involved and up to date on council meeting decisions.

“Best of all, you’ll be able to access the council video stream from wherever you are, at any time that suits you. All that’s needed is access to an internet enabled device, to get the video.”

However meetings won’t be live streamed. Cr Giudice said the decision to stream council meetings as video on demand rather than live stream was made after doing a lot of homework on the different streaming options.

Meetings will be made available to the public online as video on-demand after the meeting.

Meeting videos will be made available on council’s YouTube channel and promoted via the council’s website and social media channels.
