A Sunshine park will become a family destination after success in Pick My Project.
Jacob Holley’s proposal for the suburb’s iconic silos to be transformed into an outdoor cinema received 231 votes from the community in the state government initiative.
“I was actually a little bit shocked with how well received the idea was,” Mr Holley said. “There was a really positive reaction from the community, which gave me extra confidence in the idea.”
Mr Holley will work with the Brimbank council to deliver the concept.
“I’m so excited this is going ahead – the park where the silos are is such a fantastic stage,” he said. “I’m hoping to get the historical society to be involved with some great projections and I also want to involve local schools and the Sunshine Film Festival.
“You can just picture the park having 200 families on rugs, food trucks, live music – it’ll create a real festival atmosphere.”
It is hoped that the projections will be up and running early next year.
“I’m hoping we can get as many people as we can around the table and nut out exactly what this is going to look like,”
Mr Holley said.
Cafe Sunshine – a social enterprise cafe – received 302 votes for its $200,000 proposal.
Cafe Sunshine will join refugee organisations in providing jobseekers with job and reference skills.
Put forward by Hamed’s Persian Kitchen, the cafe will provide candidates with the training and experience they need for success in the hospitality industry.
