Female sports have been given a boost with the completion of much-needed changerooms at the Bon Thomas Reserve.
Brimbank mayor Margaret Giudice opened the rooms last week and said it was a big win for local sport.
“This project, coupled with a further $340,000 investment in sports ground lighting on oval one, is just the start of a list of improvements flagged for the Bon Thomas Reserve.
“Council has also committed $1.7 million for the redevelopment of the second sports ground with new flood lighting. This will open up the facility for year-round use for men’s, women’s and junior sport and other activities.
“We’ve also completed works in sealing the existing gravel carpark and installing carpark lighting at a cost of about $380,000.”
Cr Giudice said further investment of about $220,000 will be put into upgrading the reserve including construction of a barbecue area, drinking fountain, extension of the playground, fitness equipment, access paths and park furniture.
“The Bon Thomas Reserve development delivers great news for the future of local sports and sports participation in Deer Park and Brimbank as a whole.”
The council is planning for stage two developments at the reserve, which will include a new sports pavilion comprising a kitchen, new social community room, additional changerooms, first aid room, umpires changeroom and storage area.
Construction is planned over several financial years, subject to budget approval.
