From Deer Park to film mecca Cannes and back again, Steven Haar is enjoying a cinematic life.
A self-confessed shy child, Haar said he had always liked making people laugh and had used that passion to great effect in his years in the acting game.
“I realised, while seeing the actors and actresses on the big screen, that entertaining everyone was something I would love to do, to be funny to a larger audience,” Haar said.
“So after some luck getting extra work I was able to find being advertised in the paper, things snowballed.
“I found more extra work … and I then secured my first ever major supporting role, in Warrior, directed by (Sydenham filmmaker) Steve Ravic.”
Citing legendary director/actor Lloyd Kaufman, Sylvester Stallone and Keifer Sutherland among his main inspirations, Haar has crafted out a solid career in the independent film industry, including an upcoming role in feature slasher film
The Dark Net and an associate producer credit for American short film Curse of the Madame Wolf.
He has appeared on screen and on the red carpet at the legendary Cannes Film Festival, most recently in 2016 when promoting local comedy Diary of a Fatman.
“It’s very prestigious – I was so honored to be there to promote both my country and the projects I was involved in,” Haar said.
“I had the time of my life representing Australia and Majestic Film.
“It’s a beautiful place, plus I got to meet Paris Hilton, Lloyd Kaufman, Willem Dafoe and Benicio Del Toro. I couldn’t help but to fanboy.”
Following The Dark Net, Haar is next scheduled to appear in the sequel to Diary of a Fatman.
