Reserve makes a splash

Joe Brown Recreation Reserve looked more like a swimming pool than a football ground after wild weather lashed Brimbank earlier this month.

Keilor Football Club president Craig Hill said a number of matches were called off in the interest of safety.

“We cancelled three matches, a couple of juniors and a women’s, on the Sunday because of the excessive rain and lightning,” he said.

While the ground did not cope with the deluge, Mr Hill said the drainage has functioned well.

“We don’t see that excessive rain very often, but we haven’t trained on the ground all week and there were no games on Saturday, so it’s well on its way to back to normal.

“We actually had the ground upgraded three years ago and had it not been, a day like that would’ve made it a muddy mess for the rest of the year,” he said.
