St Lawrence Primary School pupils have been channelling their favourite pop stars.
The Derrimut school took part in A day In May, a fundraising event created to help provide positive musical experiences for children living with cancer and their siblings.
St Lawrence Primary School principal Julie Corsaletti said the fundraiser proved to be a colourful and tuneful outing.
“Our school is one of a number of schools across Victoria getting involved in A Day in May,” Ms Corsaletti said. “Children came to school dressed as their favourite pop star or in a splash of yellow for a donation.”
Staff and pupils at the school were keen to support the cause after a pupil at the school was diagnosed with cancer.
While there was no set goal, the school was happy to make a sizeable donation of $900 from the event.
All money raised will be donated to Challenge’s Musical Moments Trust, which was established in 2011 and presently provides ongoing support to more than 1000 families of kids with cancer.
“The trust was set up in honour of an inspirational little boy who, regardless of the way he was feeling throughout his cancer treatment, embraced life,” Ms Corsaletti said.
“Yellow was his favourite colour and his love for music and dance brought him much happiness and joy.”
