For the first time in one location, Australians will be able to walk around and study more than 40 of Australia’s best cars and see how they earned their titles at the Australian Motoring Festival at the Melbourne Showgrounds from March 26-29.
Selected by the peak national motoring organisation, the Australian Automobile Association (AAA), in partnership with the RACV and all other state and territory equivalents, Australia’s Best Cars awards covers 15 categories, informing buyers and automotive enthusiasts about the best vehicles available in this country, with information on safety, performance, affordability, and more.
The top three cars from each of the 15 categories will be on display at the festival, giving buyers the opportunity to see why they are rated so highly.
“If you’re in the market for a new vehicle, or considering a purchase in the near future, there’s simply no better opportunity to get inside the very best cars available in Australia,” said Gordon Oakley, the general manager of motoring and mobility at the RACV.
This group of cars was selected as part of Australia’s most independent evaluation of value for money, design and function and the on-road performance of new vehicles.
The vehicles on show offer something to interest any Australian family or car enthusiast, from the best family wagon – a Citroen Grand C4 Picasso – to the best small car (under $35,000) – the VW Golf 90 TSI Comfortline.
One standout on show is the Mercedes-Benz C200, awarded both the best medium car over $50,000 and the prestigious judges choice awards.
The cars showcased at the festival range from under $20,000 for the Mitsubishi Mirage ES, to more than $120,000 for the Range Rover Sport, and use various powertrains including petrol, diesel and hybrid energy.
Tickets start from $30 for adults and $20 for children, with RACV and VACC members saving more than 30 per cent on ticket prices.
Surprisingly the same discount isn’t being offered to members of motoring associations in other states, although this decision may be changed.
