40 years ago

February 15, 1978

Last Friday, February 10, will long be remembered by Werribee motorists as the night of “the blitz” when the streets seemed to be alive with police cars. More than 60 motorists were given a preliminary puff-bag test while others were detained and will be charged with a variety of traffic and other offences.

30 years ago

February 17, 1988

The completion of $700,000 worth of major renovations and extensions to the Werribee District Hospital will be marked this Saturday by a ceremony starting at 3pm. The building works have been extensive, the hospital’s chief executive officer, Mr John Williams, said this week, and affected almost every department of the hospital.

20 years ago

February 11, 1998

An $80 million housing development to be built in Forsyth Road, Point Cook, was unveiled by the Minister for Planning, Mr Maclellan, last week. Mr Maclellan made the revelation at a tree planting ceremony in Central Park, Hoppers Crossing, last Thursday, saying the Urban Land Corporation (ULC) had brought the 175-hectare block formally known as The Lakes.

February 20, 2008

Pressure from Planning Minister Justin Madden gave Wyndham Council no option but to approve the rezoning of land for a 2000-home estate west of Werribee on Monday night. The decision to approve the rezoning for the 197-hectare Riverwalk estate on former Melbourne Water land, home to Werribee’s B24 bomber, came despite grave concerns that the city will struggle to cope with resulting traffic chaos and the influx of 6000 residents.
