Police investigate Kororoit Creek Walking Trail fires

Brimbank Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a series of deliberately lit fires along the Kororoit Creek Walking Trail in Sunshine.

The first of five fires occurred on October 17, last year at the rear of Killara Street, Sunshine West about 6.40am.

Eleven days later a second fire was lit at the southern end of Esmond Street, Ardeer at 7.15pm.

On November 25, a fire was lit at the western edge of the creek line adjacent to Anderson Road, Sunshine at 7.20pm.

A fourth fire was lit in the reserve adjacent to Pickergill Crescent, Sunshine West on February 12, this year at 5am. It was followed by another fire to the west of Moira Street, Sunshine on February 17 at 2pm.

Witnesses have told police that they saw a man driving a red four- wheel drive leaving the scene of the Esmond Street fire.

He is described as being of Mediterranean appearance with a moustache and was wearing a Holden t-shirt.

The man, who had a conversation with firefighters at the scene, also had three small, white fluffy dogs with him.

Detectives believe he may be able to assist with their inquiries.
