Sports revamp a winner

A boost for Brimbank sport will make it easier for greater female participation and improve year-round access at two major facilities.

Work was completed last month on new unisex changerooms at Bon Thomas Reserve in Deer Park and on the new $1.6 million soccer pavilion at Ardeer Reserve, home of the Westgate Soccer Club.

The pavilion and the new $850,000 changerooms will allow for female participation in a range of sports all year round – something Brimbank mayor Margaret Giudice said was a strong council focus.

“We’re really excited about the completion of the new changerooms at Bon Thomas Reserve that can accommodate men, women and juniors,” she said.

“In addition, we’ve installed sports ground lighting on oval one, which means the reserve can now accommodate sports clubs throughout the year for the first time ever.

“The new pavilion at Ardeer Reserve now provides the Westgate Soccer Club with a modern home that meets their needs, as well as those of the wider community.”

The council has also committed $1.7 million towards redeveloping the second oval at Ardeer, including construction of a synthetic cricket wicket and additional floodlighting, and a further $220,000 for a barbecue, drinking fountain, playground extension, fitness equipment, access paths and park furniture.
