July 16, 1975

An independent investigation will be sought into allegations that a Keilor City councillor was improperly involved in property development schemes worth millions of dollars. The allegations involve Cr Philip Tagell, the principal of the firm Philip K Tagell and Associates, architectural designers, of 12 Flora Street, Keilor.

July 17, 1985

 

Barry Michael, who claims he has lost count of the number of broken title fight promises he has had in 13 years of professional boxing, has emerged as a world champion. The Williamstown fighter, with nerves of steel and a jaw and hands made of granite, captured the International Boxing Federation’s junior lightweight diadem from West Sunshine’s Lester Ellis before a sell-out crowd of more than 6000 at Festival Hall last Friday night.

July 19, 1995

The Police Association will push ahead with its plans to force closure of the Sunshine police station, secretary Danny Walsh said last week. Mr Walsh said the promise by Mr McNamara, Minister for Police, to consider a new station when framing next year’s state budget was “not good enough”.

An 18-month investigation led by experienced Sunshine detectives has resulted in the arrest and extradition of a man for sex offences committed almost 30 years ago. Detective Sergeant Peter Greaney and Detective Senior Constable Ray Martland extradited a 57-year-old man from Claremont, Tasmania, on
July6.
