Driver flees routine check

A 22-year-old Wyndham man has been charged after a police pursuit in Wyndham Vale on Sunday.

Police allege the driver sped off when they attempted to pull over a Holden Commodore as part of a routine intercept on Ballan Road soon after midnight.

Police initiated a short pursuit, but called it off for safety reasons.

Officers later arrested a man at a residence in Opala Court, Wyndham Vale.

He has been charged with committing an indictable offence while on bail, reckless conduct endangering life and a number of traffic and driving-related offences. He was remanded to appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court at a later date.

Early Saturday morning, police conducted a random breath and drug-testing operation at sites across Wyndham.

Police said they were “happy to report” no offences were detected.

The Westgate Highway Patrol has also undertaken operation Aerodyne, in partnership with Transport Safety Services and the Sherriff’s Office in the past four weeks.

Aerodyne was focused on heavy vehicles and resulted in 161 vehicles being intercepted. Two were found to be unregistered and 63 were found to be in an unroadworthy state. Police issued 47 infringement notices to drivers.
