Kids day plays for keeps

Wyndham hopes to be the scene of a new world record when the city’s Children’s Week Picnic returns to Werribee Park on October 22 from 10am to 4pm.

Wyndham City’s family friendly portfolio holder Cr Mia Shaw said this year’s event was shaping up to be one of the best yet.

“We’re going to have events spread out across four precincts, with a live stage program, an area to chill out, and a dedicated section for trying new sports,” Cr Shaw said.

“An Arts Experience zone featuring the Footscray Community Arts Centre PORTable Container with live music for toddlers is guaranteed to be a hit with the little ones, as will the portable and accessible art space Nebula.

“Catch your favourite characters from

Despicable Me 3, and be sure to hang around to witness Polyglot Theatre’s human-sized ants roaming through the park. Try out the lawn games, circus skills class, make your own puppets out of trash, or trade a pre-loved toy at the toy swap.”

The event is free to all. Picnics are welcome and food trucks will be present serving up meals and treats.

Cr Shaw encouraged people to head to the picnic to make history by breaking a Guinness World Record.

“We’ll be trying our best to smash the record for the largest game of tunnel ball. The record has been held by a primary school in Queensland since 2008, and Wyndham will be taking the title this month,” Cr Shaw said.
