Refinery glow

A massive glow above Hobsons Bay caused community alarm on Sunday night, but the MFB quickly moved to allay fears a refinery was alight. It issued a statement for Altona, Altona Meadows, Altona North, Brooklyn and Laverton North and Seaholme stating routine refinery operations coupled with atmospheric conditions was creating the glow.

Stolen credit card

Police are investigating the use of a stolen credit card 10 times within an hour in Footscray and Flemington on September 18. The card was stolen from a vehicle in Donald Street, Footscray, about 7pm that day. The suspect is described as being of southern European appearance, 50-55 years old, 170 centimetres tall and with black hair and a black and a grey goatee. He wore a dark jacket, jeans and dark slip-on shoes and carried a toiletry bag.

Solar incentive

Hobsons Bay council is offering residents incentives for installing solar panels. Information sessions will be held on October 9 at Laverton Community Hub and on October 16 at Newport Community Hub, both from 6.30pm. Details: 9385 8555
