Powerball winner spoils grandkids

A Keilor East grandmother said she plans to spoil her grandchildren after taking home $25 million in Powerball winnings on Friday.

The woman, who wished to remain anonymous, was one of two division one winners and said she had waited for a phone call from the Tatts office about a win for years.

“Oh thank god! Thank you, thank you, thank you,” she told a Tatts official.

“I’ve been waiting a long time for this phone call. I’ve been entering Powerball for many, many years and I’ve never won anything.”

She said she planned to use the life-changing windfall to buy herself a house and then splash the cash on her unsuspecting family.

“I am going to buy myself a house as I am still renting and give the rest to the kids and grandkids – they need it more than me,” she said.

“I’ll keep it a secret though and not tell my family, I just want to surprise them.”

The woman bought the ticket at Milleara Mall Lotto, and store owner Jovan Petrovski was thrilled to be a part of the win.

“We are so excited to wake up to the news we had sold such a huge division one winning entry,” Mr Petrovski said.

“We have been celebrating in store all morning and have been telling all of our customers we sold it.

“Congratulations to our winner, we wish them all the best with their life-changing prize.”

The winning numbers for Thursday’s draw were 26, 17, 2, 10, 25 and 23, while the all-important Powerball number was 5.
